Our Team

Hello there, and thanks for visiting our website. Hopefully you're here to read one of our feature stories highlighting one of the many, many successes in Nebraska's public schools. Or maybe you've got a story idea from your own district to pitch. In that case, we're all ears! You might have even stumbled upon NPSA's website on accident, and if that's the case, we might only have mere seconds to retain your attention. So go read one of our lighthearted stories about Rosie the cow in Cross County or Pippen the therapy pony in Laurel, or dive into one of our "Cultivating Culture" pieces to witness the transformational power of public education in Nebraska. Before you go back to Facebook, at least let me tell you about Nebraska Public School Advantage.

I'll start with myself. That should be easy enough. I grew up in Blair, Nebraska, a town of about 8,000 located a "country mile" north of Omaha. I've come to understand that a country mile is equivalent to roughly 20 miles. I know that because when you're driving out of Omaha, there's a big green sign that says "Blair 20 miles". I loved growing up in Blair and enjoyed my experience in the district's public school system, which provided me with all the opportunities I could possibly ask for. One of those happened to be the pursuit of my dream job, a sportswriter at a newspaper. Now, I loved playing sports. Baseball, football, basketball, golf. You name it, and I (at least tried) to do it. Writing has always been my passion. I was an editor on the high school newspaper staff and then graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha with a Bachelor of Science in Communications in 2014. My first job offer came a week before graduation from the Washington County Pilot-Tribune. Eager for my first "big boy" job, I accepted immediately spent two great years covering sports in Blair, Fort Calhoun and Arlington and subtly trying to flirt with a designer at the paper named Alyssa. Okay, it probably wasn't that subtle, but, hey, I'm marrying the girl of my dreams in under two months, so it must have kind of worked.

Anyways, where was I? Oh, yeah, how I got here. I love to tell stories, and every school has a billion stories to share. For the last year, with the help of the Nebraska Council of School Administrators (NCSA) Ambassador Program, which includes Dr. Keith Rohwer, Dr. Cinde Wendell and Kyle McGowan, an awesome trio of superintendents that travel the state spreading the successes of Nebraska's Public Schools, I have been telling your stories. The ones that might go untold otherwise. NPSA flies in parrallel support of Nebraska Loves Public Schools, and our mission is to shine a light on the incredible things happening in our state, from the Panhandle to the capital city! I'm not going to lie and say I knew a ton about the educational landscape in my home state prior to taking this job. I knew a ton about the culture of Nebraska Cornhusker football, but I couldn't tell you what set our public schools apart from other states. Getting to know superintendents, teachers and students from all corners of Nebraska has changed that. Telling your stories, and championing Nebraska's public schools, is my passion now.

I've been here a year, featured nearly 50 school districts, and I can say, without a doubt, that we're only scratching the surface. So drop a story idea in my mailbox, and lets spread the word on just how awesome you all are.
